Budget Ways to Decorate a Small Home

Decorating a small home can be a challenge, but decorating does not have to be difficult when trying to stick to a budget. A small home is really very easy to decorate in budget ways without ending up with a budget look. With a few handy tips on decorating a small space, you can turn any room in your small home into a space that feels more expansive and more stylish than ever. Best of all you will be able to stick to whatever budget you choose and successfully decorate it to create the home of your dreams - or at least a dwelling you are proud to call home.

Create a Focal Point with Wrought Iron Wall Decor

A focal point is a must-have in every room, even in a small home, and you can create a focal point when decorating with wrought iron wall decor while adhering to a budget. Wrought iron wall decor is some of the most affordable wall decor available, and it will never go out of style. No other wall décor provides as much bang for the buck than wrought iron items, and whatever you choose in the wrought iron line, it will add a great deal of designer appeal when decorating your small home. You will be able to stick to your decorating budget when choosing affordable wrought iron pieces that match your unique preference and style.

Begin by choosing a wrought iron piece that catches your eye while matching your decorating style. Whether the wrought iron piece will be placed in your bedroom, living room, or even on your bathroom wall, you will begin to transform the space into a room with designer appeal. Once you have decided on the focal point of the room, surround it with wall sconces or other well chosen wall hangings. The design options when using wrought iron are virtually endless.

Enlarge the Space with Mirrors

If you want to enlarge the appearance of a room in your home, expand the space with wall mirrors. Place two wall mirror on opposite sides of the room to make it appear far more expansive. This affordable decorating trick of the eye is ideal for anyone on a budget, and it will turn a small room into a larger looking area without the expense of remodeling. Wall mirrors are very affordable, and they are available in all sizes and styles to meet every budget and decorating preference.

Keep it Open

An open room is naturally larger in appearance, and to make a small room appear more spacious, do not make the mistake of overloading the room. Larger pieces of furniture can swallow up the space, and too much furniture can make it appear insufficient and cluttered. Get rid of larger pieces that are not necessary, and avoid lining the walls with furniture and other belongings. Overwhelming a room will only make it appear smaller, and downsizing is one of the easiest and most inexpensive ways to make a small room look larger, especially when sticking to a budget.

Decorate with Candle Displays

Candles are by far one of the least expensive ways to add beauty and fragrance to a home, and they are a great source of natural ambient light. They adequately light a small space on a dark evening, and they are a fantastic choice for those on a budget. No other source of light makes the same impact as candles, and they are available in just about every color and fragrance.

Consider displaying candles in beautiful wall sconces. This type of wall decor is ideal for anyone on a budget, and they are perfect to light a small room or an area of a room. Whether you choose candles and wall sconces for a small bathroom, bedroom, living room, or foyer, you can be sure they will make a dramatic statement.

Artificial Cut Flowers and Foliage

Real cut flowers are beautiful in every way, but they are a little pricy for those on a budget. When real flowers are not available to cut from the garden, dress up small rooms with beautiful artificial cut flowers and foliage that will last forever. They look especially lovely when displayed in wall vases, and using vertical space to display flowers and foliage is ideal for any small room. Consider adding floral-scented potpourri to the bottom of wall vases for added realism and appeal.

Making a room look and feel more open while decorating in space-saving ways will greatly improve the overall appearance of any small home. With mirrors, affordable wrought iron wall décor, and wall vases complete with artificial greenery and flowers, your small home will look exceptionally stylish. It really is very easy to decorate a small home while sticking to a budget and make it appear more spacious, warm, and inviting.

The mirrors are pretty much standard, and give off the impression of more space. The candles can be a bit tricky as their position, candle holder design, color, fragrance, may need to match the layout and existing interior decor. I really wish you included some pictures here. Nevertheless, good hub. I'm into home improvement myself.

Great to read your hub. Our family is moving into an apartment the beginning of January, after living in larger sized houses for years, and I've been researching on the best way to decorate. Thanks for all the great tips!

Hi Helen - If you are downsizing, get rid of furniture that does not fit into your space. If you are planning to move to a larger house again some time in the future, then put all of the extra furniture in storage. If you are downsizing for good, get rid of the excess stuff now instead of tripping over it for a decade and then getting rid of it. Your space will look wonderful if you do not overcrowd it. Best of luck with your move.

The key to creating a desirable place without spending a great deal of the budget is to go with minimal decor and accessories. Another benefit that you can get out of minimizing the decoration is maximizing the space inside the house. You should also have ample storage space to minimize the clutter in any part of the home.
