Bringing the Conference Room to a Dining Room

Although many homes designs include full size dining rooms, many families find that they don't use this room on a daily basis. Instead of wasting the space, it can be helpful to find new and creative ways of utilizing the dining room when it's not actually being used for dining. If you have a home business, you might occasionally have the need to hold a conference or business meeting in your home. You can give your meetings a more business-like feel, plus better utilize your dining room area, by turning the room into a part-time conference room. The entire process is easy to do, and will not detract from the usefulness of the room for dining and entertaining; stylish wall decor, such as southwestern metal art decor or french fleur de lis grilles, make the room attractive for either purpose.

Dining Room Table Turned Conference Room Table

You probably already have the primary piece of furniture needed for a conference room - a dining room table. A large table in the center of the room is a staple of almost every business conference room. Of course, a large table in the center of the room is also a staple of almost every dining room. So, using the same room for both purposes can be a perfect fit. A dining room table which includes a removable leaf can be an added bonus, especially if you sometimes need to hold large meetings. If your table is made from wood, it is a good idea to protect the tabletop surface during business meetings, since writing with a pen on paper could make marks on the wood surface. A good solution would be a custom-made glass top or table pad.

Incorporating Conference Room Functionality into Dining Room Style

There are also some pieces of furniture that can be unobtrusively added to your dining room decor which can make the room more usable as a conference room. A small roll-top desk can be a great addition, since they are as decorative and attractive as they are useful. With the top rolled down, this style of desk can be used between meetings as an attractive furniture accent piece. Most roll-top desks also have a flat area on top, which can be used to display a beautiful vase of flowers or an attractive table sculpture. When it's time for a business meeting, the top can be rolled up, providing easy access to desk space. A roll-top desk can also be a great place to store your laptop computer, since it will provide easy access when you need to use the computer while keeping it out of sight between uses. The drawers of a roll-top desk are also handy for keeping your business supplies close at hand, so that you won't need to constantly go into other rooms to retrieve items during a meeting.

Conference Rooms - Not Just for Business Anymore

Of course, even if you don't have a home business, a conference room can be useful for everyday life. Whether you are calling a family meeting or hosting a home craft party, you'll find plenty of uses for the table space. You might just find that your combined dining room/conference room will become one of your favorite rooms in the house.
